Parents need to play an active role in their teenagers lives' to keep them physically and emotionally healthy.
That was the overriding message from Dr. Meg Meeker, a nationally known physician and author who spoke to a crowd of about 200 parents and teenagers last week at Glen Lake School. The program was sponsored by the Glen Lake Parent Advisory Committee, Parent-Teacher Organization and the Benzie-Leelanau County Health Department.
“Blame my generation for messing things up for you,” she told the students. “A lot of parents just bail on their kids … It’s our job to set boundaries and be willing to say ‘no.’”
Meeker leveled with the teens, who were accompanied by – but not necessarily seated with – their parents.
